Year 4 PHSE – Dog’s Trust Visit

Feb 6, 2025PSHE

Today we were lucky enough to receive a visit from Rachel from The Dog’s Trust to speak to us about ‘man’s best friend’. We explored the ABC of caring for our canine friends. We learnt that dogs’ senses of smell and hearing are much better than humans’ but their eyesight is much worse and they can only see a few colours like blue and yellow.

A – affection – we talked about giving treats, playing, giving space to dogs and very importantly ‘snuggles’ not cuddles, letting dogs choose to come to us

B – busy – if a dog is busy, humans STOP! We need to let dogs get on with what they need to do, be it eating, sleeping, playing or going to the toilet.

C – choice – we need to give dogs the choice of whether they want attention or not. We should say hello and goodbye to dogs but if they move away, we mustn’t follow them.
