As part of our Geography studies, Year 4 have been learning about the layers of the Earth this half term and how the Earth’s crust is broken up (like a jigsaw) into tectonic plates. Using practical demonstrations, we have learned there are 5 different types of mountain formations including volcanic, plateau, fault block, fold and dome. We have also enjoyed reading more about volcanoes in our own time! Finally, we introduced our case study around the Andes mountains by writing Geographical clues for where they are found e.g. Which hemisphere are they found in? Which ocean is located to the West? Is it North or South of the Equator? Is it found in the largest continent? These clues really put our Geographical knowledge to the test!
