Year 1 Diversity Week

Jul 7, 2025PSHE

As part of Diversity Week, Year 1 thoroughly enjoyed finding out about the life of Louis Braille by listening to the inspirational story ‘Six Dots’. We discovered that Louis was just five years old when he lost his sight. We found out that he was a determined and clever boy. He wanted to live like everyone else and what he longed to do was be able to read. In his school in Paris, there were no books for him and so he invented his own alphabet. This was made up of raised dots and could be read by touch, this was called the Braille Alphabet. We then wrote our names and messages using Braille and we were fascinated that this amazing system is used by the blind community today.
