To further their knowledge in the materials unit, Year 5 completed an experiment to identify which solutes could be dissolved. Before the experiment, children identified the control variables. They noticed that to make it a fair test, they needed to keep some elements constant, such as the amount of the solute, the amount of the solvent and the length of time before reading the results. After making their predictions, children used water to find out which materials dissolved and which ones mixed or separated. They took their results and wrote their own conclusions based on the outcome of the experiment.
