School Councillors from both Dunston Hill and Kingsmeadow joined forces to carry out a School Route Audit of the sites surrounding streets yesterday.
Living Streets, who are a walking charity initiated the audit to obtain the views what our children can see are the potential barriers of walking to school could be.
Members of staff from the Road Safety Team were also present to support pupils to also consider the impact of the A1 as well as other issues that may arise (hazardous parking, speed of traffic, narrow paths, poor aesthetic environment etc.).
The comments and observations of pupils were collated by Living Streets and will form the basis of a report which will be shared with both schools and National Highways.
We hope to be able to share some of our findings soon.
Finally, a huge thank you to our School Councillors for your contributions, we are very proud of you all.
