Judo in Year 5

Feb 9, 2025Physical Education

This week, year 5 were lucky enough to have Jamie visit them to complete some judo sessions. In their session, year 5 learnt more about the origins of judo and how this sport supports skills such as resilience and respect. Children warmed up with some reaction games and teamwork skills before moving on to specific judo holds.

Children were taught how balance plays a big part in judo. This was put to the test in a partner exercise by sitting back to back and trying to move the other person through strength and balance. Children moved on to learning judo holds. Here, children looked at how to safely move out of a judo hold. Jamie demonstrated how to safely bring your opponent down from standing by using a specific combination of moves and using balance as a way to stay safe.
