Year 5 have been busy learning more about Brazil over the last half term. This week, year five focused on the products that Brazil grow that are exported around the world. They looked closely at the products they use often and how these products get to their homes from Brazil.
When looking at exports, children noticed how little some of the farmers were paid. Children looked at the trade journey of a banana and noticed that the farmers were the ones to earn the smallest amount. Year 5 were introduced to the term ‘Fairtrade’ and a lot of them recognised the Fairtrade logo form products they have seen in the shop.
Children had a go at being farmers and buyers. They were given different scenarios to try and make a fair trade deal between them.
