We have had a fantastic day celebrating Earth Day with a range of workshops hosted in Key Stage 2 by Alex from Northern Gas Networks. This year’s theme is Our Power, Our Planet. Year 3 used balloons to pick up paper – representing energy needed to collect CO2. The message to children was that small amounts of effort add up to a large impact. In Year 4, the children made seed bombs from soil, seeds and recycled egg boxes. The message to children was through supporting biodiversity, small parts of the planet help to build bigger parts. In Year 5, the children made wind turbines. The children learned about wind farms on land and at sea, and realised that making small changes makes a big difference. In Year 6, table football came to life, exploring different types and strengths of wind. The children learned the important of renewable energy and the effectiveness of wind turbines in a range of locations. The children were extremely engaged and had so much fun! A huge thanks to Alex, who was just amazing.
