Year 5 have been showing great enthusiasm in their Music learning this half term. They have explored Blues and Jazz and have loved finding out about the history of these genres and how they have impacted modern music that they hear on the radio nowadays.
To start with, year 5 thought of all the genres they had heard of before and it was fantastic to see the range of music knowledge in our year group. From K-pop to classical, from rock to musical theater and from acoustic to dance music, they were able to name a variety of genres and discuss why they liked or disliked these types of music.
Year 5 listened to a range of blues music and learnt more about where this type of music comes from. They had a go at writing their own lyrics using the classic structure of question, question, answer, trying to include a rhyme in there too. It was brilliant to see the creativity and confidence with the children performing their own blues verses. Next up, they will be adding these lyrics to music on the glockenspiel.
